Hearing in focus with Sordin Academy

Hearing protection manufacturer Sordin is opening its Sordin Academy video training program to the public. The goal is to increase awareness of sound-related topics and reduce the risk of hearing damage, e.g. in connection with shooting firearms.

“A field operative depends on perfect hearing. Yet, a single shot from a firearm can be enough to cause permanent hearing damage, and significantly impair performance in the field,” says Roland Pettersson, Segment Manager Tactical at Sordin.

Sordin Academy provides a broad and accessible introduction to topics related to sound, noise, and hearing. The training consists of several playlists with course modules covering subjects such as the physics of sound, human hearing, hearing protection, and noise-induced hearing damage.

The course content has been developed in collaboration with professional experts in acoustics (the science of sound) and audiology (the science of hearing), ensuring quality and reliability for professional training purposes.

In military applications, hearing protection during firearm use is a key focus. Sordin Academy discusses essential concepts such as peak impulse noise – the type of noise produced by gunfire – and the requirements for hearing protection to effectively safeguard against it.

“Gunshots are so brief that we often don’t perceive their true intensity. This makes them both deceptive and dangerous to human hearing,” Roland Pettersson adds.
